1 Kings 14 is a chapter that focuses on the reign of King Rehoboam of Judah. It begins with a prophecy from the prophet Ahijah of Shiloh, who tells Jeroboam, the leader of the northern kingdom of Israel, that God will give him ten of the twelve tribes of Israel. This prophecy is fulfilled when Rehoboam's son Abijah dies and Jeroboam becomes king of the northern kingdom. The chapter then goes on to describe the wickedness of Rehoboam's reign. He follows in the footsteps of his father Solomon and worships idols, leading the people of Judah astray. This leads to God's judgment on the kingdom, as He sends the Egyptian Pharaoh Shishak to attack Jerusalem and take away all of the treasures of the temple. The chapter ends with a warning from the prophet Shemaiah to Rehoboam, telling him to repent and turn away from his wickedness. This is a reminder to us all that God is a God of justice and will not tolerate sin. We must always strive to live in obedience to Him and His commands, or else face the consequences of our disobedience.
